Roffey 1-5 Petersfield Town
Petersfield snuck into the playoffs in style as they thumped Roffey on the road to set up a semi final away to Crowborough on Tuesday night.
The Rams needed results elsewhere to go their way, either Crawley Down Gatwick or Haywards Heath to slip up if they wanted to make it. Midhurst beat Crawley 2-0 meaning our 5-1 victory saw us leapfrog them into fifth and a play off spot.
The first major talking point was Ash Mutongerwa’s second yellow after 31 minutes. He bought down Harrison Cable on the break early on for his first booking then caught Liam Kimber on another break bringing his afternoon to a premature end.
Despite a man advantage the hosts took the lead against the run of play. A great ball in behind caused confusion between Ellis Grant and Jack Farrier meaning Bailey Moyo picked up the pieces by rounding the keeper and tapping into an empty net.
Six minutes later in the 37th minute superb chasing from Cable from a Farrier long ball bought the equaliser. Some great hold up play meant Assad Ssemwogerere could take over, whipping his shot to the far post and into the back of the net.
Despot the first half being a tight nervy affair, the second was anything but with Petersfield dominating and scoring goals. Will Webb had a superb performance and was unlucky to not score with a volley being saved, however, Jack Lee was on hand to rifle in from six yards out.
Ssemwogerere grabbed his second just after the hour mark. Lee’s excellent cross was flicked goal wards by Ash Leigh with the keeper making a great save, Ssemwogerere finished off the rebound with a free header.
Callum Kimber grabbed two goals to finish the scoring. He showed tricky feet for his first goal as he was tripped in the area, stepping up for the penalty he slotted it home himself. The rout was complete after a Ssemwogerere cross was only palmed away by the keeper leaving Kimber to tap home.
