Lingfield 2-1 Petersfield Town
Petersfield’s play off charge took a massive blow as lowly Lindfield beat them at home on Friday night
Despite Harrison Cable scoring it was a tricky night as the hosts created chances and subdued the Rams attack.
A lively start saw Kian Towse read a through ball, coming in of the left he sent a low shot which rebounded off the inside of the post.
Both Petersfield managers were left frustrated with the poor quality of goals they conceded and went behind after 11 minutes. Trying to play out of pressure, Harrison Hide played it directly to Gus Ward, alone in the box he had the simple task of placing it past Ellis Grant.
The visitors struggled to create clear cut chances but Will Webb sent a fizzing effort close and on the half hour mark Brandon Miller had a free header parried away from a corner.
The situation seemed to get worse as Jack Farrier, not fit to start, came on for Toby Vealeat half time and Brandon Miller was forced off in the first half due to injury.
In the 58th minute Grant made a great stop, getting low to a near post shot and it proved vital as Cable equalised two minutes later. A swift break led by Liam Kimber down the right, driving he found Cable in the middle who took a good first touch and found the bottom left corner with the second.
The match looked to swing in Petersfield’s favour but another sloppy goal put the hosts in control. An easy pass into the box not dealt with had Grant pushing a shot into the path of Ward. Firing across goal, the ball fell to Jack McDonnell who slammed home for the hosts.
Bob Tudway came on to try and turn the tide but it was Cable who made the final chance himself. On the end of a powerful goal kick he did well to hold off the centre back, closing in on goal with a defender jostling him, his shot went narrowly wide.
