Haywards Heath Town 1-3 Petersfield Town
Petersfield continued their fine form against play off sides after an impressive away win to second placed Haywards Heath.
Harrison Cable scored an early goal but an equaliser meant an Asad Ssemwogerere brace secured the points.
Both teams had lots of quality on show but it was the visitors who notched ahead after five minutes through great determination from Kian Towse. Bringing down a lofted ball he had to work his way around the fullback with great control, turning the defender into the six yard box he picked out Cable across the goal to tap home.
The early goal proved to be against the run of play as Heath turned up the heatwith Ellis Grant helping a fast free kick over the crossbar. In the 40th minute the hosts levelled, after mounting pressure Charlie Gibson took advantage of sleepy defending to got through on goal, spotting a gap he to squeezed it past Grant, as the ball bounced over the line.
Heath began the second half well but an immense performance from centre back, Harrison Hide as well as the team meant they found little joy.
Another positive for the visitors was the work rate of both wingers, Towse and Ssemwogerere who caused havoc, with the latter setting up Liam Kimber who couldn’t hit the target.
The Rams re-took the lead after 54 minutes through Ssemwogerere. Towse showed superb tenacity as he bore down on goal on the counter, going into the area he fizzed a low ball across as the other winger slammed in low under the keeper.
With tails up a spell of pressure came for Petersfield as Cable stung the palms of the goalkeeper. After 67 minutes Ssemwogerere grabbed his second and the Rams third, a quality first touch in the box allowed him to swivel away from defenders before firing low into the near post.
Straight from the restart there should have been a fourth. A poor clearance meant Towse played a simple low pass into the feet of Cable, looking g back he should have hit it first time with the keeper out of position but failed to score.
Will Webb put in some last ditch defending as the visitors saw out the remaining minutes in style.
