Crowborough Athletic 0 - 3 Petersfield Town
Petersfield opened the campaign in style, with a statement victory over promotion hopefuls Crowborough on Saturday.
The hosts finished third last season but Callum Kimber goals either side of a Liam Kimber strike meant the points headed back to Hampshire.
Despite the scoreline it was a shaky start with our joint managers voicing their frustration on the sidelines. Ellis Grant made a good save across goal then pushing the rebound round the post.
The visitors grew into the game but only after another great save from Grant. Kian Towse started well and after beating his man out wide whipped a ball in, Harrison Cable came in but his effort only enough for the crossbar.
Towes had a shot tipped wide before Callum Kimber slotted the Rams ahead just before the break.
Picking up the ball on the edge of the area and cutting inside left the keeper to beat. Holding off a defender he poked the ball past Charlie Holmwood for the lead.
The second half bought a superb attacking performance as Cable went through seeing his effort saved then after 57 minutes Liam Kimber doubled the advantage. Cable’s assist for Kimber who faced the keeper inside the box and with a little dink scored.
The third goal was a real team goal, started by Dec Seiden and finished by Callum Kimber. Chasing his own flick down the line, Seiden forced a poor back pass that Asad Ssemwogerere intercepted. Laying off to one Kimber whose effort was blocked as the other finished the job.
Towse had another effort blocked as Owen Kimber dragged a shot wide later in the half. Olly Davies came on and forced a couple of good blocks before full time.
Deep into stoppage time, goalkeeper, Holmwood saw red for the hosts. Closing down Towse on the edge of the area he handled the ball however the linesman signalled that it is outside that area. After slight deliberation he was shown a red card.
A hugely successful trip resulting in three points on our debut in the Southern Combination League with a visit of Pagham to look forward to on Tuesday.
