Baffins Milton Rovers 2 Petersfield Town 1
An Austin Giles goal wasn’t enough to steal a point from play off chasing Baffins, as they won it in added time.
With the hosts playing the day before and Petersfield riddled with injuries it was a slow game that came to life late on.
The first half bore little action, the hosts clipping the crossbar with an effort from range. A certain goal was denied by Cam Smith as a rare counter attack saw Baffins breach the defence. The shot came in, beating the keeper but Smith was there to block.
Coming up to the hour mark, Kevin Robinson sent an effort into the midriff of Harry Greenfield and the keeper was called into action again holding from a fierce effort across goal.
With fifteen minutes left Robinson poked his side in front. Testing the Rams back line, Tommy Paterson got behind to then pull it back for Robinson to tap in.
Giles thought he had earned his side a point in the 88th minute but credit has to go to Chad Cornwall. Chasing the goalkeeper on the edge of his box, he won the ball and dug out a lovely cross into the area for the lofty Giles to beat the defender and nod home.
Joy was diminished though in added time as Ed Sanders nodded his side in front. Lurking at the back of the line for the free kick he was allowed to head the ball which looped into the near post as he wheeled away to celebrate.
