Petersfield Town 0-0 Crawley Down Gatwick
(Petersfield won 4-2 on penalties)
Ellis grant saved a penalty as the Rams won their third shootout of the season to progress in the Peter Bentley Cup,
(this is the league cup for the SCFL).
Despite a flurry of late chances it ended goalless after 90 minutes as Crawley Down Gatwick held out for penalties. Grant saved one, Cable had one saved but Crawley hit the post as Owen Kimber scored the winning kick.
Crawley slightly shaded the first half with a couple of half chances. Harry Birmingham tracked the striker well, into the box they went as he made a great block in the six yard box. The second was an effort from Callum Kilkenny who had Grant punching wide.
Going into the last 20 minutes the game opened up in Petersfield’s favour. The biggest chance of the game fell to Harrison Cable, after peppering the goal a Kian Towes shot fell to Cable, who six yards out blazed over.
With five minutes to go Cable forced a superb low save whilst on the turn from Alex Ballingham. The resulting corner was headed narrowly wide from Dan Wood.
Cable who could have had a hat trick on another night was squandered again late on. Kieran Mayele played a perfectly weighted through ball as Cable raced through, he seemed to hesitate as Ballingham closed him down and blocked the incoming shot.
Goals from Dec Seiden, Kieran Mayele, Asad Ssemwogerere, Owen Kimber alongside the save from Grant was enough to over turn Cable’s miss, on a night where the net evaded him.
